A new program is fighting obesity and carryout food in Ward 7 with cooking classes at Lincoln Heights, the city's second-largest low-income housing complex.

The Anacostia Watershed Society is studying catfish from the river to learn exactly what toxins are in their bodies and in the river. On Saturday, a fishing event drew residents out to help.

“When our youth don’t see their neighbors, parents, or family members going to work every day it makes having a job seem like an unattainable thing,” says one employment program director. But the teens taking part in these summer internships and job training programs are getting another view: one that shows them that they can contribute to the work world.
