A six-story, 31-unit condo project will break ground in the next 60 days in Petworth, according to its developer, Pers Development.
Located at 3930-3936 Georgia Avenue NW, the former Goins restaurant will house 32,000 square feet of mixed-use space, including 3,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.
The current structure will be renovated "substantially," Ramin Bassam says, Pers Development President, and won't be "recognizable" once it's finished.
"We're setting the bar even higher," he says of Fahrenheit, his company's 7th project in the nation's capital. He adds the building will feature a rooftop deck, barbecue lounge and a fitness center, among other multi-purpose spaces. "It's going to be top notch."
The project, named Fahrenheit Condominiums, will take approximately 14 months to complete, says Bassam, whose company bought the land for $1.6 million. The building has an estimated cost of $14 million and is scheduled for completion spring of 2014.
The Petworth area is known for its early 1900s brick row houses, many of which have been renovated or transformed into single-family homes and mixed-use spaces.
Georgia Avenue, one of the neighborhood's main retail thoroughfares, will be also home to a new Safeway store slated to open summer of 2014.
