Micro-hotel planned for Chinatown will deliver by 2016

June 9 marks the groundbreaking of D.C.'s first "micro hotel," Modus Hotels announced in a press release.

The micro-hotel, at 613 H St NW, is also Modus's first of that type. The 11-story, 245-room hotel will have ground-floor retail and no parking. However, a nearby parking garage will offer some spaces and there are bikeshare stations and a Metro stop nearby.

"Micro" though these units be, don't picture something out of "The Fifth Element" or a Tokyo highrise. The hotel rooms are likely to look something like this (a similar micro-hotel in New York).

The hotel, a joint venture with Monument Realty, is projected to open in fall of 2016.
