The owners of a high-end olive oil and specialty foods shop are opening a store in Cleveland Park by early September.
Secolari will sell its signature olive oil, vinegar and aged balsamic vinegar and host cooking classes and demonstrations next year. Located in the Historic Sam's Park N' Shop on Connecticut Avenue, the 1,486-square-foot store will also display works from local artists and host artist receptions, says Barth deRosa, who owns the business with his wife Mary deRosa. Next year the shop will start offering cooking classes and demonstrations.
The couple also operates a Secolari store in Bethesda Row, which opened in 2011, and The Mall in Columbia, which opened in 2013. Another Secolari debuted just this month at the Towson Town Center mall, north of Baltimore. The stores also sell pasta, honey, salts, rubs, jellies, spreads and tapenade.
The olive oils and vinegars are stored in
fusti, or stainless steel containers with a spout that customers open and pour into individual bottles that sell for between $22 and $27. They come in an assortment of flavors, including champagne mimosa vinegar, basil-flavored and blood-orange olive oil and pear ginger wasabi balsamic.
Barth deRosa says he chose the Cleveland Park location because it’s in an upscale, densely populated area and has plenty of parking. The store faces the busy thoroughfare of Connecticut Avenue and is across from the Cleveland Park metro station.
“We believe our Cleveland Park location will become an accessible destination point for all of Northwest Washington,” deRosa says.
