Local author crowdfunding YA diabetes book

James Arawole, author of Blood is Thicker Than Sugar, is crowdfunding to supply 250 copies of his new novel to D.C. and Maryland public libraries. The novel follows a 17-year-old prep basketball standout who struggles with juvenile type-1 diabetes.

“I want to use this project as an initiative to help fight low literacy rates in the inner-city by providing relatable content,” says Arawole, a native Washingtonian.

Arawole hopes to raise $5,000 in a Kickstarter campaign that launches Thursday, August 6 and runs through Friday, September 4. Check out the book’s first chapter here.
