SimpleTix, an e-ticketing provider based in D.C., is in the process of making it easier and simpler for its business-to-business customers to sell tickets. SimpleTix last week launched a ticket-buying app for Android devices and is launching a similar application for Apple iPhones next week.
Because of the impact the two apps are expected to have, SimpleTix is also hiring four developers and business development salespeople within the next month, to add to its current staff of nine.
“We sold 3,000 tickets to a food festival in Texas” through the Android app, said Aron Kansal, SimpleTix founder and CEO.
Last March, SimpleTix introduced a new cloud-based platform. The move resulted in a fourfold growth in customers and in revenue, according to Kansal.
“We expect equal growth with the introduction of these two new products,” he said. “We are building out our sales team.”
Kansal founded the privately-owned SimpleTix, headquartered at 718 7th Street NW, in 2010.
“I saw a large void in the market, especially on the international side. There were other companies like ours but they were very U.S.-centric and accepted American currency only,” said Kansal, who proceeded to create a system that works in 40 different languages and currencies.
SimpleTix has customers around the world. In some countries, said Kansal, “there was no ticket application company, so we have first-mover advantage.” However, most of its customers are in English-speaking countries like Canada and Australia.
SimpleTix works with event promoters, marketing staff, tour packagers and the venues themselves of live performances, festivals, conferences, trade shows, resorts and amusement parks. The company provides customized e-ticketing solutions, either creating a ticketing website or turning an existing website into a ticketing portal.
“You buy tickets through us but you keep your brand identity,” said Kansal.
