Mapbox, the cloud-based map platform, has raised $10 million, TechCrunch reports.
The product allows people to create custom maps (like the one here on local nonprofit Casey Trees'
website), so it competes with Google Maps. But unlike Google and other competitors, CEO Eric Gundersen argues that MapBox is the only product optimized for mobile first, and therefore has a little something that differentiates itself from competitors.
Clearly Foundry Group, which led the Series A round, agrees.
Mapbox has offices in San Francisco, but is headquartered here in D.C.
