Permits were filed last month with the District of Columbia Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) for approval to begin construction on a project at 1337 Connecticut Avenue NW in Dupont Circle that would add one floor to the building that currently houses
The Gryphon restaurant and
Kabin Lounge.
Pending approval, construction is expected to begin in late 2014 or early 2015.
Valor Development is adding one floor to the top of the five-story building. (The plans originally referred to two additional floors, but
one floor was since removed.) The new floor and the existing fifth floor will become high-end condominiums, according to Michael Beidler, principal of Trout Design Studio, which is designing the addition.
The condominium part of the building will have its own, separate entrance and elevator lobby on 18th Street.
Four floors of the building will remain commercial.
Beidler estimates the project is in the $10 to $15 million range.
