The new apartment building at 3205 Georgia Avenue is expected to begin renting this summer. Tentatively called The Gibson, the 21,000 square foot, five-story building will have 32 apartments, of which five will be designated affordable housing.
Matcap Development is the property's owner. Potomac Construction Group, the developer, began construction on the then-vacant lot in 2013, according to Michael Beidler, principal of Trout Design Studio, the architect. “Construction is almost complete,” he says.
Beidler says some of the apartments are mezzanine-style, meaning there are two levels inside and ceilings are 16 to 18 feet high.
The building also offers bike parking (10 spaces) and 16 spaces for cars.
The site has seen
many proposals for development over the years, but none came to fruition. Now, though, "Georgia Avenue is one of the hottest areas for development now," says Beidler, "with a lot of boutique residential development."
