The development of the Steak ‘n Eggs site at 4700 Wisconsin Avenue NW into a mixed-use project got a boost with the October 28 Board of Zoning Adjustment’s approval of the preliminary design. Architect Richard Foster says he expects to submit construction drawings and file for a building permit by summer of 2015.
“We will start construction soon after we get the permit,” Foster says.
The project involves the demolition of the existing Osman and Joe’s Steak ‘n Eggs Kitchen, a popular Tenleytown restaurant, and two adjacent vacant buildings at 4702 and 4704 Wisconsin Avenue NW. A four-story building will be constructed in their place.
The developers are Frank and Dina Economides. The Tenleytown neighborhood
blog has been closely following the project.
Foster says the first floor of the future building would be retail, one of the tenants being an expanded Steak ‘n Eggs. The top three floors would be residential, with 16 apartment units.
According to the Tenleytown blog, the rental units will be primarily one-bedroom or junior one-bedroom apartments.
The developer asked for and was granted a parking variance from the required number of spaces, and will offer a total of eight underground parking spaces for building tenants. Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3E supported the request.
