Petworth project loses one unit, gains support


The District’s Board of Zoning Adjustment at its July 14 meeting approved a zoning relief request to allow the construction of a new apartment building at 129 Varnum Street NW. Gabriel LLC, the developer, requested a variance to the parking space width and driveway width for the building. The lot is currently occupied by a vacant one-family dwelling, which will be razed. The new three-story building will have six apartment units and six parking spaces.
 
A previous proposal calling for seven units and an off-street entrance to the building drew criticism from neighbors, the local ANC (4C), and the Office of Planning.
