Troop ID, the credential verification program that helps online commerce sites identify members of the military, has recently hired four new employees in engineering and business development.
The company, originally founded in November 2012, is also signing on 1,000 new members a day, growing its user base to over 120,000.
Troop ID allows companies to verify military credentials online to offer deals to members of the armed forces.
"There is a tremendous outpouring of goodwill to those in the service at large," explains Holly Tennant, VP of business development for Troop ID. "It was happening at brick-and-mortar stores but it wasn't happening online. Brands haven't been able to offer discounts online [to the military] without fear of fraud and abuse. It's hard to get promo codes in the hands of the right people."
Companies that have partnered with Troop ID to verify military credentials and offer discounts include Under Armour, Telluride Ski Resort, and Magento, an ecommerce platform that Tennant calls "the world's largest shopping cart app." According to Tennant, another major partnership is in the works.
Tennant stresses that Troop ID also benefits members of the military community in ways beyond a discount at check-out. "We've deployed a training program with the VA to enable veterans to be better prepared for jobs," she states. "And we can help companies verify the identities of potential hires, working as a complementary HR function. All of these companies that want to hire veterans—we can help."
Troop ID was founded as an outgrowth of TroopSwap, a military-friendly daily deals website. Both entities were co-founded by Blake Hall and Matt Thompson, both U.S. Army veterans of the war in Iraq. Thompson also served in Afghanistan.
When launched, Troop ID received
accolades from the White House's
Joining Forces program.
Troop ID is located in McLean, VA, and will establish a downtown presence at tech hub 1776.
