Over a third of D.C. businesses are owned by women, according to data collected by personal finance site NerdWallet. That plus resources like the
Washington DC Women's Business Center puts D.C. third on a list of the top ten cities for women entrepreneurs nationwide.
San Francisco, Calif., took the top spot, due to its famous women in the C-suite (Yahoo's Marissa Mayer among them). Seattle's percentage of women-owned businesses was roughly the same as D.C.'s, but got more points, NerdWallet said, for having Melinda Gates live there.
