&pizza has put up signs and applied for a liquor license for its 1404 K St NW location. It's slated to open sometime this fall, confirms Carolyn Rush, the company's public relations officer.
Each of the local pizza chain's six locations has a distinct theme, centered around important features of the neighborhood, so naturally, the 1404 K St NW space will be plastered in photos of presidents past.
"It's going to be White-House-themed, and really an homage to the history of that area," Rush says. In the main dining area, customers will see "iconic and beautiful" images of past presidents in the White House, and in the bathrooms, the images will show presidents in a more loosened-necktie state.
This will be the local pizza chain's 5th District location, and its seventh overall. &pizza is also planning a location in Germantown, Md., which Rush says the company is "super excited to be opening."
Rush says &pizza expects to do brisk lunch business at the 14/K location, as it does elsewhere. "We get a huge lunch crowd," she says. "People are coming in at 11am when we first open." That, and in addition to the lawyers and lobbying firms lining K street, there's a not-insignificant number of clubs. &pizza hopes to provide those late-night patrons a dining option in a neighborhood where many eateries close early or on weekends.
In addition to putting up its exterior "coming soon" signage, the company also applied for its liquor license (other &pizza locations sell beer and wine), which was posted Aug. 8. If no community members object, the liquor license will be granted Oct. 6.
