Bang Salon to get half-million dollar facelift

Bang Salon is getting a half-million dollar facelift. The renovation of the women’s and men’s hair salon at 601 F Street NW, in Chinatown, should be complete by the end of April.

The result will be completely new flooring, air conditioning, plumbing and customer amenities. The interior space is being rearranged as well to increase the number of salon stations from 15 to 18. The salon will close for two weeks in March for the renovation.

Chinatown’s Bang Salon opened in 2006. The 3,000-square foot Bang was the second to open in the District.

“It became our fastest growing salon. It was so heavily used that it was getting worn around the edges,” said David von Storch, president of Urban Adventures Company, parent company of businesses that include Bang Salon, VIDA Fitness, Capital City Brewing Company and The Penthouse Pool and Lounge.

“We also wanted to figure out ways to make the space more efficient, to move rooms around,” he said.

No exterior work is being done on the salon. It is located in the same building as the Verizon Center, at the corner of 7th and F streets, but has its own, separate entrance.

The first Bang Salon opened in 2001 at 1612 U Street NW with the mission of offering budget-friendly cuts fast. Since the Chinatown salon, two more Bang Salons have opened, in Logan Circle and, last year, Navy Yard.

Von Storch said that while no more salons are currently in the works, the company is constantly “looking for opportunities.”

“Our mission is for the salons to stay current,” said von Storch, who renovated the first salon, on U Street, last year. “We have a constant program of updating and improving."
