Manny & Olga's Pizza opens in spring in Woodridge

Manny & Olga’s Pizza expects to open its newest shop, at 2117 Rhode Island Avenue NE, this spring. The Woodridge neighborhood shop will be the ninth location for the local pizza chain.

Bobby Athanasakis, Manny & Olga’s president, says the company received a building permit to renovate the one-story commercial building the end of last month. Plans call for new electrical, mechanical, plumbing and flooring.

After renovations, which begin this week, Athanasakis is anticipating a June opening.

Manny & Olga’s has been planning the move into Woodridge since 2013. “We wanted to expand the business and we were getting a lot of requests from that area,” said Athanasakis. “It seemed logical to go there. It’s an up-and-coming neighborhood.”

The shop will located in a vacant building that once housed a barbeque carry-out restaurant called The Rib Pit, according to Athanasakis.

Manny & Olga’s will have an open-concept floor plan with a front wall of exposed brick. It will seat 15 inside, and Athanasakis has applied for a permit to put one or two tables outside in the warm weather.

“We’ll have an open kitchen. People will see the pizzas being made,” he said.

Like the other Manny & Olga’s, the shop will offer dine in, carry out and delivery.
