Esquire has released its Best Bars in America list, and six from D.C. have made the cut.
Atop
the list: The Raven, one of D.C.'s few remaining true dives.
"Within five minutes, I was working on a hooker of Old Overholt and a can of Natty Boh ($7), deep in conversation with the bartender and one of the regulars about snow chains, old-school methods of child rearing, the late dustup in the Philippines between Generals MacArthur and Yamashita....I don't know of a sounder bar in America," says writer David Wondrich.
Everyone who's been in D.C. long enough has a Raven story. We'd love if you'd share yours.
Beyond that, other bars that made the cut were Jack Rose, Tabard Inn, Round Robin, Off The Record and The Columbia Room. A solid list if we say so ourselves.
