A
former dollar store and now vacant storefront on Brookland's main thoroughfare will become a new convenience store in a few months, owner Medhanie Weldegergish confirms.
"I have seen the neighborhood and the nice people," Weldegergish tells Elevation DC. "It looks like a good business area."
The new store, at 3509 12th Street NE, will be called Selina and carry mostly convenience store items as well as beer and wine, but also some fresh produce and possibly meats, Weldegergish says. He plans to be open within two months.
Within a few blocks of Selina are a Yes! Organic Market, a CVS, which carries some food items, and the Newton Food Mart.
Weldegergish is no stranger to the competitive nature of retail, though: he owns another corner store, at
8th and Rhode Island Ave NW.
