Songbyrd Record Cafe opens today at 2475 18th St NW.
According to a press release, the cafe serves sandwiches and coffee in a music-lover's environment. The cafe has one of the country's only "Voice-O-Graph" recording booths, where for $15, visitors can record just over three minutes of themselves speaking or singing onto a real 45 RPM record.
The cafe also carries records for purchase "with a special emphasis on soul, funk, R&B, hip hop and indie albums."
Owners Alisha Edmonson and Joe Lapan are also working on a "music house" next door at 2477 18th St NW, but details on that are, for now, scant.
